Illustration and Graphics
Digital Ink draws high quality illustrations in house, either for navigation elements or for actual products that our clients sell. We do not rely, as many other web design companies do on generic "clip art".
All the examples on this page are drawn using vector illustration software, this means that the images can be re-sized in any resolution which is useful if, as happens, our clients ask us to supply high resolution version for printing. Certain types of images actually end up with smaller file sizes if the image is drawn rather than photographic. Drawing also gives the ability to produce a much "cleaner" looking image at low resolution which is particularly useful for maps. You can scan a map and reduce the size, but often it is difficult to reproduce the legibility of the original when you only have a few hundred pixels to play with. Re-drawing the map can produce a much better result, althiough obviously a more expensive one.
We often draw stadiums for our sports clients, at one level this is a useful guide showing entrances/exits, bars, restaurants and wash rooms, they can also be used in the ticketing system to allow visitors to choose where they want to sit.
Digital Ink often design corporate identities for clients, this is very necessary for start up companies, where we are asked to create a web site where there is no current house style to work from.
Mixing illustation techiques with animations is a useful technique to put over how things work, or to liven up an otherwise featureless page.
